Learning Through Play
Our approach is based on learning through play, as this is the most natural and effective way young children learn. We recognise that every child is an individual, so we carefully plan a balance of child-led and adult-led activities that reflect each child’s interests, needs, and stage of development. This approach supports children to build confidence, develop key skills, and flourish at their own pace.
Children’s learning and development is supported across the seven areas of learning: personal, social and emotional development; communication and language; physical development; literacy; mathematics; understanding the world; and expressive arts and design. Through these areas, we encourage curiosity, creativity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning. Our approach is learning through play and having fun, as this is the best way for little ones to learn. We all know that every child is unique, so we tailor activities to ensure that your little one flourishes, develops and learns.
Outdoor Learning
We are incredibly fortunate to have daily access to Bredon Hancock’s Endowed C of E First School’s outdoor facilities, including:
- A large field
- A wide range of outdoor equipment including their new timber adventure trail.
- Sensory garden
- Wooded forest school area
- Outdoor classroom
Playgroup also have their own age-appropriate equipment at the school, such as trikes, scooters, building blocks, water play and role play props. This ensures that the children enjoy an abundance of fresh air, helping them build resilience, confidence and a love of nature.
Woodland Workshop
Our weekly Woodland Workshop for preschoolers is a highlight of the week. Held in a beautiful, wooded area within the school grounds, children enjoy:
- Nature walks
- Planting and growing
- Exploring wildlife
- Outdoor crafts
- Picnics and adventure days
This hands on experience helps children develop curiosity, independence and a deep connection with the natural world.
Community
We take regular walks in our community, these include visiting the village shop, post office and St Giles Church. We work closely with Bredon Hancock's Endowed C of E First School supporting a smooth transition into Reception.
Preschool children:
- Regularly meet the reception teacher
- Visit the school regularly and become familiar with the school environment
- Join in with the Teddy Bears’ Picnic
- Experience school dinners and school performances
